Cloudflare, Inc. is an American company, which provides a content delivery network, Internet security services and domain name servers, distributed and located between the visitor and Cloudflare user´s hosting provider, acting as a reverse proxy for websites. CloudFlare´s headquarters are located in San Francisco, California. Cloudflare software acts a proxy (liaison) between the server and site visitors. CloudFlare, acting as a proxy, saves temporarily static site content, which decreases the number of requests made to the server, but still allows visitors to access to the site.

FAQs about cookies

Why are warnings given about the use of cookies? Following the amendment made in 2012 to Article 22.2 of Law 34/2002 of 11 July on Spanish Information Society Services and Electronic Trading, it was established that users must consent to the use of cookies after being duly informed of the purposes for which they are used.
Can sanctions be imposed for breaches of legislation on cookies? Yes. Minor offences can incur penalties of up to €30,000, while serious offences can reach €150,000, although the normal penalty amounts imposed range between €500 and €25,000.
How can cookies be removed from a computer? All users can control or delete cookies whenever they wish, although this may lead to a different web experience. If users reject or delete them, certain functions of a website may not operate correctly.
Can cookies negatively affect my computer? No, a cookie is simply a text file. It cannot be used as a virus and cannot access a user’s hard drive. It is the browser itself -and not a person- that stores the cookie for a web page when necessary.
How much space do cookies use on a hard drive? Although cookies take up very little space (a few kilobytes), as users browse the internet, the accumulation of these cookies can take up a relatively large amount of space on the hard drive. That is why both website browsers and operating systems have automatic mechanisms so that this does not occur, normally by fixing a maximum number of cookies that can be stored. When this number is exceeded, the browser will automatically delete those that have been used the least.
Who is required to comply with regulations relating to cookies?
  • Online stores and other e-Commerce platforms.
  • Company pages.
  • The business pages of self-employed professionals, regardless of whether they are used to inform users about their business or as online stores.
  • Media companies or private blogs that include some type of advertising.
  • Companies and professionals established in Spain and any foreign websites that are intended for Spanish users.
